Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of our frequently asked questions. If you have any questions that are not answered below, please contact us.
SRC, Center of Attention, provides a comprehensive range of services to support individuals with ADHD. Our expert team is composed of specialists in different areas of ADHD care, allowing us to offer integrated support. Our key services include:
- ADHD Assessments / Evaluations: We conduct in-depth ADHD evaluations at appropriate levels of thoroughness (see our evaluation tiers below). Each evaluation results in detailed feedback and documentation of findings.
- Medication Management: Our psychiatric nurse practitioner (ADHD specialist) offers ongoing medication management for ADHD and co-occurring conditions. This includes evaluating the need for medication, prescribing and adjusting ADHD medications, and monitoring progress. Medication management can be a stand-alone service or part of a wraparound treatment plan.
- ADHD Coaching: Our center provides one-on-one ADHD Executive Function coaching to help clients build skills and strategies for success in daily life. Coaching can cover time management, organization, goal-setting, business coaching, or values-based coaching to align your actions with your core values. Coaching is typically for older teens and adults, and can be provided in person or virtually.
- Psychoeducational Testing: We have a Licensed Educational Psychologist on our team who offers comprehensive psychoeducational assessments. These evaluations can identify learning disabilities, giftedness, or other educationally relevant factors. Services include IQ testing, academic achievement testing, Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs) for school, Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS) assessments, executive functioning assessments, and evaluations for school or college accommodations (e.g., 504 plans, IEPs, extended testing time).
- Consultations: We offer parent consultations to help families support a child or teen with ADHD, and professional consultations to advise educators, therapists, or physicians on ADHD-related matters. These consultative services leverage our expertise to guide strategies in home, school, or work settings.
Our aim is to provide “wraparound care,” meaning we can address multiple needs of our clients under one roof. Whether you need a one-time evaluation or ongoing support, our team can coordinate to ensure personalized, continuous care.
The SRC Center of Attention is a private pay practice, which means we do not bill any insurance directly (we do not participate in in-network insurance plans). Payment is due at the time services are provided. However, many clients are able to use their out-of-network benefits to get reimbursed for a portion of our fees.
- If you have a PPO or other plan with out-of-network coverage, you can submit our receipts to your insurance for potential reimbursement. We will provide you with a detailed receipt called a Superbill upon request. A Superbill contains the necessary codes and information for your insurance company to process a claim for out-of-network services.
- We do not accept Medicare or Medi-Cal (Medicaid) and are opted out of those programs. This means Medicare/Medi-Cal will not reimburse for our services, even under out-of-network terms. If you are a Medicare beneficiary and wish to see us, you will be required to sign a private contract acknowledging that you will not seek Medicare reimbursement.
It’s a good idea to contact your insurance carrier before your first visit to ask about your out-of-network benefits for the specific type of service you plan to use. For example, you can inquire about coverage for psychological assessment (often billed under testing codes) or psychiatric outpatient services (for medication management visits), as applicable. This will give you an estimate of how much you might get reimbursed.
We serve clients in both the Tri-Valley area and the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
Yes, we offer virtual appointments! Many of our services can be conducted via secure video conferencing for clients anywhere in California for assessments, California and Oregon for Medication Management and anywhere in the United States for Coaching. This telehealth option is convenient if you are not nearby or if you prefer to have sessions from the comfort of your home. For certain services, like the initial evaluation or specific tests, we may recommend an in-person visit for accuracy and completeness – but we will let you know in advance. Coaching and follow-up medication management are often very well suited for virtual sessions.
In summary, we are happy to work with you in person at our Bay Area offices or online through virtual sessions, depending on what works best for your location and schedule.
Scheduling an appointment with us is simple. You have a couple of options to get started:
- Online Booking: You can schedule directly through our website. We have an online booking system (accessible via the "Schedule Appointment" button on our site) where you can choose the service you need and find a convenient time. This is available 24/7 for you to book at your convenience. Once you book, we will reach out with any necessary intake forms to complete before your visit.
- Free Consultation Call: If you’re not quite sure which service you need or want to learn more before committing, we offer a free 20-minute consultation call. It’s an opportunity to discuss your concerns, ask questions about our process, and determine the best next steps for your care. You can request this free consult by calling our office or sending us an email). We’ll find a time that works for the phone call and get you scheduled.
After the consultation call, if you decide to move forward, we will help you book the appropriate appointment for an evaluation or other services. Of course, if you already know what you want (for instance, you know you want a Tier 2 Evaluation), you can go ahead and use the online booking to set it up without a preliminary call.
Regardless of how you schedule, our team will send you confirmation and provide any instructions needed to prepare for your appointment (such as filling out preliminary questionnaires). We strive to be responsive — if you reach out by phone or email, we will get back to you as soon as possible, usually within one business day.
Our center works with children, adolescents, and adults – we aim to support individuals with ADHD across the lifespan.
- Children & Teens: We conduct ADHD and psychoeducational assessments for children (typically starting at school-age, around 6 and up) and adolescents. These evaluations can help identify ADHD or learning issues early and guide school interventions or accommodations. For younger children, we often involve parents and teachers in the information-gathering process. We also provide parent consultation to help families implement strategies at home. (Note: We do not provide long-term therapy for children, but we can refer to child therapists if needed, as our focus is on assessment and ADHD-specific interventions.)
- Adults: We offer ADHD evaluations for adults of any age, including college students, working professionals, and older adults who suspect they may have ADHD or related challenges. We also offer the bulk of our ongoing services to adults, such as medication management and coaching, to help manage ADHD in workplace, college, or home settings.
- Transitional Ages: For older teenagers (late high school) and young adults, we can provide a combination of assessment, coaching, and consultation to help with transitions like moving to college or starting a job. Our coaching services are primarily geared toward older teens (usually 16+) and adults, since coaching techniques require a certain level of maturity and self-engagement to be effective. Similarly, medication management is offered to adults, and in some cases to older adolescents (generally in collaboration with their pediatrician or primary care doctor until they transition to adult care).
In summary, assessments are available for all ages – children through adults – and our ongoing support services (like coaching and medication management) are focused on adults and late teens. If you have questions about whether our services are appropriate for your or your child’s age group, please reach out and we’d be happy to discuss it.
Our approach is integrated, team-based, and personalized. The SRC Center of Attention was founded to bring together different ADHD experts under one "virtual roof" so that clients can get well-rounded care tailored to their unique needs. Here are the core principles of our approach:
- Integrated Care Team: We have a multidisciplinary team consisting of a Licensed Educational Psychologist (LEP), a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who specializes in ADHD medication, and a seasoned ADHD Coach (among other roles). This means when you come to us, you’re not just getting one perspective – you have a whole team looking out for you. We combine expertise in psychological assessment, medical treatment, and skills coaching. The team consults with each other (with your consent) to make sure we consider all aspects of your situation. For example, if you are evaluated by the LEP and later start medication with the nurse practitioner, they can collaborate on your care plan.
- Comprehensive “Wraparound” Support: Our goal is to address the many facets of ADHD in one cohesive plan. ADHD affects school/work, home life, emotional well-being, and more. By offering multiple services in-house, we aim to wrap services around the client and family. This might mean you do an evaluation with us, then join an ADHD coaching program to build new habits, and also have medication check-ins – all coordinated within our center. We also emphasize the importance of structure and routine in managing ADHD; our coaching and consultation often include helping clients build effective routines.
- Personalized Attention: We purposely maintain a boutique practice, which allows us to give each client a high level of attention. You won’t feel like a number here. Our sessions (especially initial evaluations and coaching meetings) are longer than typical doctor visits, so we have time to really understand your story. We also tailor our recommendations to fit your life – considering your personal goals, career, family situation, and strengths. This personalized touch is something we pride ourselves on, especially compared to larger national clinics.
- Collaborative and Empowering: We view our relationship with clients as a partnership. Our specialists work with you to set goals and make decisions about your care. We also encourage involvement from family members when appropriate (for instance, parent input in a child’s evaluation, or a spouse/partner’s perspective for an adult client) to get a full picture and to help your support system understand how to help. Additionally, we collaborate with other providers in your life as needed. If you have a therapist, primary care doctor, or school counselor, we can (with permission) communicate with them to ensure everyone is on the same page.
- Commitment to Quality and Education: Everyone on our team is not only highly experienced in their field, but also committed to ongoing learning. We stay up-to-date with the latest research in ADHD treatment and assessment. We are also building a knowledge hub for our clients – this includes creating educational content like blog posts, videos, and workbooks. Our hope is to empower you with information. When you join our practice, you gain access to a wealth of resources about ADHD. We believe an informed client can better advocate for themselves at work, at school, and in life.
- High-Quality Network: While we provide many services internally, if you need something we don’t offer, we will help connect you with trusted professionals outside our center. Over the years, we have built a network of excellent therapists, pediatricians, psychiatrists, tutors, and other specialists. We only refer to providers we would trust with our own families. This way, even if your needs extend beyond our scope, we ensure you’re supported every step of the way.
Overall, our approach is about combining strengths – by uniting the expertise of an evaluator, a medical prescriber, and a coach, we strive to cover all bases. We want to see our clients thrive not just in managing symptoms, but in leveraging their unique talents and strengths that come with “thinking differently.” ADHD can pose challenges, but with the right support, those with ADHD can absolutely flourish. Our center’s mission is to provide that tailored support and guide our clients toward success in school, work, and life.
Yes. We provide a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) to all clients who are uninsured or not using insurance, in compliance with the federal No Surprises Act. This is essentially a written estimate of the expected costs of your care. Here’s what you should know:
- Your Right to an Estimate: You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of what your services will cost before you schedule or receive them. We will automatically provide an estimate if you are paying privately (which all of our clients do, since we don’t bill insurance). You can also request an updated estimate at any time.
- What the Estimate Includes: The GFE will outline the services you’re scheduled for (for example, a Tier 2 ADHD evaluation, or an initial intake plus three coaching sessions) and list the expected charges for those services. If your treatment plan changes, we can adjust the estimate. For ongoing or open-ended services (like ongoing coaching or medication management), it’s hard to know exactly how many sessions you might need, but we will give you a sense of the per-session cost and how frequently we typically meet, so you have an idea of potential overall costs.
- No Surprises Act Protections: The law is designed to prevent surprise bills. If you were to receive a bill that is at least $400 more than what was quoted in your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the charges. While this situation is unlikely with our practice (because our fees are transparent and we discuss any additions or changes with you), it’s important for you to know your rights. We encourage you to save a copy of your Good Faith Estimate for your records.
- More Information: For detailed information about the No Surprises Act and your rights, you can visit the official government website atcms.gov/nosurprises. We’re also happy to answer any questions you have about our estimates.
In short, we believe in price transparency. You will know our fees upfront from our initial discussions and/or the Good Faith Estimate document we provide. Our goal is that you never feel caught off guard by the cost of your care. We know that investing in these services is significant, so please feel comfortable discussing any cost concerns with us at any point.
We completely understand that life happens and sometimes plans change. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. We have a friendly but clear cancellation policy to help us manage our schedule:
- We ask for at least 48 hours (2 days) notice if you need to cancel or move an appointment. This allows us time to offer that slot to someone else who may be waiting.
- If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice, or if you miss your appointment (no-show) without notice, we may charge a late cancellation fee. Typically, this fee is $100 for a standard appointment. For longer sessions (for example, a multi-hour evaluation appointment), the late cancellation fee may be higher or equal to a deposit you’ve made, as we set aside a large block of time for you. We will inform you of any cancellation fee at the time of scheduling, so there are no surprises.
- We do understand that true emergencies and illnesses happen. If a last-minute conflict arises due to circumstances beyond your control, please inform us as soon as you can. We try to be fair and may waive the fee in genuine emergency situations. Our primary goal is to ensure that our providers’ time is respected and that other clients have the opportunity to use open slots.
To cancel or reschedule, you can call or email our office. If it’s outside of business hours, just leave a message or send an email timestamped at least 48 hours before your appointment. We will confirm the cancellation and help you rebook a new appointment if desired.
By adhering to this policy, we can keep our schedule running smoothly and make sure that clients who are waiting to be seen can get an appointment in a timely manner. Thank you for understanding! We aim to be flexible and compassionate, and we appreciate your cooperation with the scheduling policies.
